Serena Williams ‘paved the way’ for mothers to keep playing tennis, says Martina Navratilova
Tennis great and former US Open champion Martina Navratilova says Serena Williams paved the way for her to ‘keep on playing’ against difficult opponents.
The two took to court in 2013 after Martina lost a court three-setter at the Australian Open after being unable to hold match points in the third set.
It was the second time in her 20-year career that Serena had had a serious court defeat on her hands in the third set, having also lost a match in the third round to Maria Sharapova in 2003.
And Navratilova says it has only helped her to be more competitive at the highest level.
